Description

When winter has your skin saying, “Absolutely not.”

Cold air. Dry heat. Wind. Constant handwashing.
Winter can be downright rude to your skin. 😂
Hands get rough. Lips get chapped. Elbows and knees suddenly feel like sandpaper. And sometimes regular lotion just isn’t cutting it.
That’s where Soothe comes in.
Soothe Winter Skin Salve is a rich, herbal-infused salve I created for those stubborn dry areas that need a little more attention.
I combine yarrow, calendula, lavender and echinacea with nourishing oils, shea butter and beeswax to create a thick, concentrated salve that helps soften dry skin and seal in much-needed moisture.
No complicated skincare routine required.
Just a really good little jar of herbs, oils, butter and beeswax for really thirsty skin.
3.5 oz • Herbal Infused • Moisture Rich • Small Batch

Why I Made Soothe

Like a lot of Binford’s products, Soothe started because I wanted something simple.
Winter is hard on skin.
Between cold weather outside, dry heated air inside, washing your hands constantly and everything else we put our skin through, sometimes a lightweight lotion just disappears without feeling like it did much of anything.
I wanted something richer.
So, I went back to familiar herbs I’d already worked with for years:
Yarrow.
Calendula.
Lavender.
Echinacea.
I infused those herbs into oils and combined them with shea butter and beeswax to make a thick salve I could massage into the areas that needed extra attention.
Something that didn’t immediately disappear.
Something that could sit on the skin, soften it and help seal in moisture.
And Soothe became exactly that.
Winter can be rough. Your skin doesn’t have to be.

What’s Inside?

No mile-long ingredient panel. Just familiar plants, oils, butter and beeswax.
Yarrow
Yarrow has a long history of traditional topical use and has been included in botanical skin preparations for generations.
Calendula
One of those herbs that just belongs in a skin salve.
Calendula has a long history of traditional topical use and is commonly included in botanical preparations intended to condition and soothe dry, delicate-feeling skin.
Lavender
Lavender isn’t here simply because it smells lovely.
It’s also been traditionally used in botanical skincare preparations and pairs beautifully with the other herbs in Soothe.
Echinacea
Most people recognize echinacea from seasonal herbal products, but the plant also has a history of traditional topical use.
Shea Butter
This is where Soothe gets some of that wonderful richness.
Shea butter is an emollient that helps soften and condition dry skin while supporting moisture retention.
Beeswax
Beeswax gives Soothe its protective salve texture and helps form a barrier over the skin that slows moisture loss.
And that’s really what we’re trying to accomplish:
Give dry skin some love—and help keep that moisture where it belongs.

How I Use It

A little Soothe goes a long way.
Massage a small amount into dry areas and add more as needed.
My favorite trick?
Put it on clean, slightly damp skin.
After washing your hands or getting out of the shower is perfect.
That little bit of water provides moisture, while the oils, shea butter and beeswax in Soothe help slow its evaporation.
I especially like Soothe for:
Hands • Elbows • Knees • Feet • Lips • Around the nose & ears • Stubborn dry patches
And at night?
Slather some onto really dry hands or feet before bed and let it sit while you sleep.
Sometimes simple works beautifully.

Why a Salve Instead of Lotion?

Because winter skin sometimes laughs at lotion. 😂
Lotions contain quite a bit of water, which is part of what makes them light and quick to absorb.
Soothe is different.
It’s concentrated oils, butter and beeswax.
That creates a richer, more protective product that stays on the skin longer and helps reduce moisture loss.
It’s especially nice for those stubborn areas where you want something to stick around and do its job instead of disappearing thirty seconds after you apply it.
And because it’s concentrated?
You only need a little.

Made the Same Way I Started

Soothe is still made in small batches.
I infuse the herbs.
I blend the oils, butter and beeswax.
I pour the jars.
I label them.
I pack them.
There isn’t a giant skincare factory behind Binford’s.
There’s still a real woman making your salve in small batches with plants she’s worked with for years.
That’s exactly how Binford’s started.
And that’s exactly how I want to keep it.

Is Soothe Right for You?

If you walked up to my market table and said:
“My skin gets SO freaking dry in the winter.”
I’d understand immediately.
I’d probably ask where it’s bothering you most—your hands, face, lips, elbows, knees, feet?
And if what you’re looking for is something thicker and richer than your everyday lotion, this is where I’d point you.
No ten-step skincare routine.
No, ridiculously complicated formula.
Just a jar of botanical oils, herbs, shea butter and beeswax made for skin that could use some extra love.

Winter Skin Isn’t Your Only Winter Problem…

Cold weather tends to bring a few other things along with it.
That’s why Soothe Winter Skin Salve is one of the seasonal remedies returning to Binford’s for the colder months.
SHOP DROPS allow me to bring back some longtime favorites when they make the most sense.
Because sometimes your stomach needs At Bay.
Sometimes your mind needs Calm Seas.
And sometimes January simply turns your hands into sandpaper. 😂
